Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Juneteenth

June 19 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EDT

This concert commemorates Juneteenth, the historic day in 1865 when the last remaining enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Recognized as a federal holiday and a vital part of American history, Juneteenth is both a celebration and a call to remember the ongoing work toward equity and justice.

We invite our community to gather for this meaningful occasion, beginning with a flag-raising ceremony on the steps of City Hall at 1:30 PM, followed by a 3:00 PM concert at Symphony Hall featuring uplifting performances that honor the spirit of freedom and resilience.

Admission is open to all. In the spirit of accessibility and community, we ask that attendees reserve their seats in advance and consider making a contribution that feels right for them. These contributions directly support the artists, production, and community partners that bring this important event to life.

The celebration continues outside Symphony Hall, where local food vendors and artists will be offering a variety of delicious eats and unique goods. Come early, stay late, and connect with neighbors, friends, and the broader Western Massachusetts community.

We’re thrilled to welcome back Kevin Scott as conductor for this powerful community event. Before and after the concert, guests are invited to explore the Mahogany Room at Symphony Hall, where local vendors and artisans will be showcasing handcrafted goods, artwork, and more.

Whether this is your first Juneteenth experience or a long-standing tradition, we welcome you to be part of this shared moment of reflection, joy, and music.
