Did you know? Long before George Washington’s Birthday became a federal holiday in 1879, people memorialized the first president not only with balls and toasts on his birthday but also through the creation and use of a wide variety of household objects and decorations! Washington is represented throughout our collection in glass, textiles, ceramics, paintings, metalwork, and even wax, in numbers unmatched by any subsequent American politician.
