Calling all explorers, curiosity-seekers, and pathbreakers!
Norman Rockwell Museum presents ART OF ADVENTURE, a fun-packed family festival inspired by the creative pursuits of illustrator, puppeteer, and practical joker Tony Sarg. ART OF ADVENTURE aims to spark the imagination of children and adults alike with exploration-themed activities including map-making, puzzles, arts and crafts, games, and food and drink, as well as opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty, walking trails, and outdoor sculptures on the Museum’s 36-acre campus.
Held on Saturday, July 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., ART OF ADVENTURE is free of charge with Museum admission; kids 18 and under and Museum members always visit for free.
Highlights of the festival include a giant community puzzle event, Imagi-Nation passports filled with creative and interactive activities, and a newly installed giant picture frame for capturing memories of the day. Outdoor games, picnic areas, climbing-friendly sculptures by Peter Rockwell, walking trails to the Housatonic River, and scenic views of the Housatonic River Valley round out the experience.
Visitors will be greeted by a 30-foot creature, Morton the Sea Monster, a replica of the 125-foot rubber-balloon critter created by Sarg for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1936. Morton resurfaced off Nantucket in 1937 as part of a sensational promotional stunt orchestrated by Sarg, and has popped up again in the Berkshires this summer.
Journey on over to the Museum for an afternoon full of indoor and outdoor adventures, real and imagined, inspired by the creative pursuits of Tony Sarg: illustrator, puppeteer, author, designer, entrepreneur, and practical joker. Map-making, arts and crafts, games, food, and drink all combine in one unforgettable story-filled day.
