Local author Alycia Jenkins will discuss her book, The Laughing Elephant in the Room, with the Stowe Center’s Cat White, Director of Public Programs. With a background in poetry, Jenkins’ lyrical novel is imbued with history, powerful imagery, and a dash of magic to consider the past, present, and future experiences of Black Americans. Through the characters of The Laughing Elephant, Jenkins illuminates the triumphs of Black women, men, and children, and the power of laughing in the face of oppression. Jenkins will read sections from her book and other work, then join Cat in conversation about the book, history, and inspirations.
Guests will have a chance to ask questions, purchase copies of the book, and have it signed onsite.
