Crab Apple Whitewater, Deerfield River Trips

June 28

The Monroe Bridge trip is full of big waves and fast whitewater rafting action! The fun starts right below the Monroe Bridge dam in northwestern Massachusetts with Class II warm-up rapids and then leads to a stretch of bigger Class III drops such as “Devil’s Odds” and “Landslide”. Along the way our expert white water rafting guides take time to play and work the river in a surfing hole or two or three! We LOVE surfing!

Half-way through the trip we take a break for a quick snack. Time to rejuvenate some tired arms and get ready for the largest rapids of the trip. Also a chance to talk about the beauty of the river, possible wildlife sightings and enjoy the camaraderie with friends and family. We are living the dream as we sit along the banks of the Deerfield in a deep, forested gorge.

We leave our snack break and each rapid gets more exciting as the trip builds toward the final and most difficult rapids of the day, Class 4 “Dragons Tooth”, “Terminator” and “Showtime”. These rapids require precise maneuvering by your guide and strong paddling by each rafter. Big drops and huge splashes through the raft will be captured on film, so paddle hard! Good runs through these Class IV rapids climax an awesome day of whitewater action in the Berkshires.

When the run is complete, it is back to Crab Apple for an amazing cookout with lots of options including homemade salads, desserts, bread and main courses. We wrap it up by checking out photos of the rafting action that includes big “whiteouts” in the rapids and memorable facial expressions of rafters as they paddle through the drops and waves.
