Road Trip Idea #33: All Apple Everything!
You know you can count on Western Mass for beautiful foliage for the next several weeks and as always, this year will not disappoint. While you’re enjoying that foliage, we’ve put together some other ways to enjoy fall – through taste and smell! So get in the car and take that Road Trip to Western Mass for All Apple Everything! (and beautiful leaves)
Apple Cider Donuts
You probably think you’ve tasted a good cider donut, but have you tasted a great one? Head to Atkins Farms in Amherst for a warm cup of their own apple cider and truly the best apple cider donuts in New England.
But wait. We have not one but TWO great spots for apple cider donuts! At Randall’s Farm, they’ll make them while you wait! Believe the hype.
Fried Apple Pie Ravioli
The Federal restaurant in Agawam is known for using locally sourced ingredients in truly unique ways. This is one of the many examples. Fresh apples are transformed into raviolis with butterscotch and crème fraiche gelato.
Cal’s Wood-fired Grill has an extensive martini list and their fall offerings showcase apple in a big way! The Macintosh Martini is made with Crown Apple, Apple Pucker and cranberry juice – literally all the tastes of fall. But if that doesn’t whet your whistle they also have a Caramel Apple Martini or Luxury Appletini to choose from.
Apple Cider Mojito
At Lattitude, you can count on fresh, seasonal ingredients in everything from the appetizers to the desserts. You’ll want to start with the Apple Cider Mojito though and really set the fall mood. Made with Bacardi Rum, local apple cider and muddled mint with lime, you’ll get all the fall feels from this beverage!
Apple Caramel Belgian Waffle
Memo’s is known far and wide for their delicious breakfasts and portions big enough for a take-home container. To celebrate fall, they’ve added a special apple twist to their menu including Apple Caramel Belgian Waffles, Nana’s Apple Pecan Pancake and Baked Apple Pancake.
Apple Walnut Upside Down Cake
350 Grill puts a creative spin on the apple craze with a unique upside down cake. If you’d rather drink your apple calories, go for the Fall Apple Sangria. No judgment here!
Your plan for a Western Mass fall visit should always include a stop at Yankee Candle Village for their seasonal selection of fall scents including plenty of Macintosh and other apple scents. Your favorite attractions like the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum, Basketball Hall of Fame, MGM Springfield and FrightFest at Six Flags New England are open and ready to welcome you.
The leaves are turning, the cider is flowing and the apples are ripe for the picking. Explore Western Mass this fall.
