Road Trip Idea #31: Live Entertainment Is Back In Western Mass!

Live entertainment is back and there are many ways to enjoy it in Western Mass. This region is known for live music in outdoor venues, arenas, theaters and even intimate locations. Here are just a few of our fave spots to listen to the music (and the comedy)!

Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival
Springfield Jazz and Roots Festival is BACK this summer and at a new location! Taking place Saturday, August 14th from 1pm – 10pm at Stearns Square, enjoy nonstop music from an array of incredible artists such as Claudia Acuna, Hailey Brinnel, Etienne Charles and Creole Soul, and much more. Capacity is limited so RSVP Now! Pre-event activities include free admission to the Wood Museum of Springfield History to see the new exhibit in honor of the late Charles Neville (founder of the festival), engaging workshops, and a high-energy parade led by the effervescent Grand Marshall Henri Smith. The pre-event activities will take place at the Wood Museum from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Symphony Hall
Easily one of the most beautiful venues for live music in Western Mass, Symphony Hall recently completed a massive improvement project consisting of new lighting and sound systems. A full slate of shows are scheduled this fall including Boyz II Men, Chicago, Joe Bonamassa and comedians, Brian Regan, Tom Segura and The #IMOMSOHARD Tour. Get tickets here.

Roar Comedy Club
Get ready to roar with laughter again at this MGM Springfield venue. The club is located inside the beautifully refurbished Armory building and will host comedians Ray Harrington and Marty Caproni in August with more shows announced all the time. Get tickets here.

Northampton Jazz Fest
Presenting live jazz concerts October 1-2 with national and local artists at various venues in downtown Northampton. This year’s performances include The Art Blakey Centennial Celebration, Sullivan Fortner, The Alex Hamburger Quartet and more. Click here for details.

Uno’s Summer Courtyard Concerts
The Springfield Riverfront and Uno’s Summer Concerts are the place to be nightly for live music in Western Mass. In addition to great food, this spot has a huge outdoor patio and the best local musicians on the daily. Get the full schedule here.

Downtown Springfield Summer Concert Series
On Thursdays, Court Square in Downtown Springfield is the place to be as Springfield Downtown presents the hottest local bands! Just bring a chair because there will be plenty of Food Trucks and a wide selection of beer on draft all summer long. Check out the schedule here.

The Big E
Not only is New England’s Great State Fair back in 2021 but with it comes a great slate of live entertainment. From free shows at the Court of Honor Stage to ticketed shows at The Big E Arena, there truly is something for everyone this fall.
