PELHAM ELEMENTARY STUDENT ARTIST AND FAMILY OPEN HOUSE
Pelham Elementary Students and their families are invited to an open house at the Mill District Local Art Gallery the weekend of April 6 & 7 from 10am – 3pm to celebrate their work that is showcased in the current Front Window Gallery Exhibit, “Pieces of Us”.
Pieces of Us is a collection of artworks crafted by the imaginative hands of Pelham Elementary School’s young artists, aged 5 to 12. Inspired by classroom dialogues around identity, the exhibit reflects the many characteristics that shape our school community.
In class conversations, students were intrigued by the seemingly limitless characteristics, both visible and invisible, that define us. They recognized that these distinctions both help us connect with others and also make us unique. Slightly daunted by the challenge of encapsulating their entire selves within a single artwork, the students agreed to spotlight a “piece” of their identity—a fragment of the intricate puzzle that is the self.
Each student had full control over their creative expression, within Pelham’s choice-based art studio. The selections they made in subject matter, media, style, and design beckon us to embrace the beauty of their collective diversity and celebrate the mosaic of experiences that unite us all.
This Front Window Exhibit was organized by Emily Stewart, the art teacher at Pelham Elementary. Due to the number of pieces, the installation of this exhibit will be complete mid-March. The exhibit runs through Saturday, April 27th.
Student Artist Statements are available to view at the Local Art Gallery.
