Springfield, Voices from the Grave Cemetery Tour

October 16, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

The Voices from the Grave tours are completely sold out.  No tickets will be sold on October 16.

The Springfield Preservation Trust 9th historic cemetery tour, “Voices from the Grave” will take place at Springfield Cemetery on Sunday,  October 16, 2022. Please mark your calendars for another afternoon of education and entertainment in the pastoral setting of one of America’s oldest “garden” cemeteries.

The walking tours through historic Springfield Cemetery on Maple Street will visit the graves of notable Springfield citizens and costumed interpreters will speak about their lives and accomplishments.

Springfield Cemetery is the final resting place for 17 Springfield mayors, seven congressmen, 600 Civil War veterans, plus notable judges, business leaders, authors and poets, and one victim of the sinking of the Titanic.

From politicians, to soldiers, to builders, scientists and scholars, on down to ordinary folk who witnessed extraordinary events. This year we are concentrating our efforts in the area of the cemetery that has some of the oldest graves. The graves along Pine Street. Here are a few of the people whose monuments are in the area.

Capt. Henry L. Bunker (1798-1865) Whaler & merchant

Capt. James Day (1780-1852) Soldier

Hon. Thomas Dwight (1758-1819)Congressman

Nathaniel Ely (1605-1675) Innkeeper

Daniel Lombard (1764-1856) Postmaster & merchant
