Fall was and is a special time in New England! Spend time this weekend to celebrate the harvest and New England autumn by enjoying the brilliant fall foliage, meeting a couple of teams of oxen, and learning about how early 19th-century New Englanders preserved the harvest.
Join us during Ox Weekend as we welcome visiting teams of oxen. Throughout the weekend, these teams will participate in ploughing matches, obstacles courses, and parades. You may even be able to try your hand at ploughing with oxen!
Did you know that oxen don’t earn the title of “ox” until they have gone through four years of training? Until then, they are just considered working steers. Voice commands include “haw” for “go left,” “come up” for “go forward,” and “whoa” for “stop.”
