Punch your own tin lantern! You do the hard work, and your instructor will assemble the pieces to make sure it comes out the way you want it. NOTE: You will not have your completed lantern the same day. Your lantern will be assembled by our tinsmith after the class. We will notify all participants when their lanterns are done, so that you can pick them up or we will gladly ship them.
Instructor: Richard Eckert is the Head Tinsmith at Old Sturbridge Village. He began working in the Tin Shop in 2011 taking over the various workshops offered in 2015. Prior to this, he worked within the sheet metal industry, working with various metals including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanized steel.

Learn more about traditional furniture-making techniques in this full-day course. Participants will develop their woodworking skills and build confidence using basic tools while making a small table with tapered legs and a half-round top.
Instructor: Christopher Nassise is the Historic Trades Coordinator at Old Sturbridge Village. He is a graduate of the Cabinet and Furniture Making program at the North Bennet Street School in Boston and the artisan owner of The Green Woodshop in Easton, Massachusetts.

Join instructor Ethan Choiniere as you learn how to make string and cords from natural sources. Increase your nature awareness and learn techniques that can be used for survival, art, and enjoyment of the woods.
Instructor: Ethan Choiniere has trained as a blacksmith since 2009. He currently helps run the blacksmith shop at Old Sturbridge Village and runs his own private shop. He has experience with forging historically made tools for trades, farm, and households.

Sew a Pocket or Housewife. Two essentials of a well-organized 19th C. woman were her pockets, worn under the gown, and a housewife, or “hussif,” a portable, roll-up holder for crucial sewing supplies. Begin to design and hand – sew either of these articles in this workshop.
Instructor: Linda Oakley joined OSV as a historic interpreter over 40 years ago. She has worked in household, garden, textile, craft, music, and Museum Education programs, including stints as a Sewing Trainer and Lead Interpreter for Sewing. Linda has been teaching Historic Craft classes for many years and tested recipes for the first edition of the Old Sturbridge Village cookbook.
