The festivities in Monson — known as the Monson Summerfest Fireworks — will take place at Quarry Hill Community School at 43 Margaret St., from 5 to 11 p.m. Rain Date June 25th. The fireworks are at dusk.

4th of July parade and events will happen on the 4th of July as always.

The day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the 13 former British colonies on July 4, 1776.

Massachusetts became the first state to recognize the Fourth of July as a statewide holiday in 1781.
