Holyoke Community College to Celebrate 50 Years of Theater with the Return of the Leslie Phillips Festival
The Leslie Phillips Festival, a series of short plays – written, directed, and staged in 24 hours – will debut October 8th at 7:30pm at Holyoke Community College. The event honors the legacy of Leslie Phillips, who founded HCC’s Theater Department, and this year, will commemorate 50. years of theater at the college.
For the 5th year, a talented group of HCC theater alumni, students, staff, and their friends in the Theater Community will showcase one-act plays that are produced, script to stage, in just 24 hours … yes, ONE DAY … for the delight of the audience and to raise money for the Leslie Phillips Fund for Theater Arts and Education at Holyoke Community College.
To create the Leslie Phillips Festival, people register to participate as writers, directors, actors, or stage crew. The writers meet with the actors on October 7th, the night before the event, and receive play elements such as props. They have until 6am the next morning to write short plays. Two hours later, Actors and Directors meet to rehearse all day. All of the original plays are performed that evening starting at 7:30pm.
