Kick off the season with the Grinch, our Gingerbread House exhibit, art activities, the lighting of the Quad, and more. Travel from the Balloon parade to the Museums for a day filled with family-friendly, fun activities. Have a chance to meet the Grinch in person! Activities free with Museums admission. 10 am-5 pm.
Holiday Happenings Friday, November 23
11 am: Big Balloon Parade, Main Street, Springfield: See the Grinch riding in a 1916 Hudson! Check out the Museums’ new float, celebrating fun and play.
Noon-1 pm: The Music of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Local musician Chris Eriquezzo performs songs from the animated special.
Noon-4 pm: Mount Crumpit Derby: Design a mini-sleigh and race to see who can bring the Grinch down to Whoville the fastest!
Noon-4 pm: Who Hair Wacky wearable balloons that will make you look like a resident of Whoville.
1-4 pm: Meet the Grinch Get a hug or high five from Dr. Seuss’s lovable curmudgeon.
2-3 pm: The Music of How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
3 pm: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Sing-Along Join us for a screening of the 1966 animated classic, based on the book by Dr. Seuss, and belt out a few tunes.
10 am-5 pm: Gingerbread: The Pop Culture Edition Exhibit and competition. Vote for your favorite!
Noon-4 pm: Christmas Photo Booth
Noon-4 pm: Caves Learn how animals find their way around in the dark.
Noon-4 pm: Art Discovery Center Hands-on art and gallery games.
The Lighting of the Quadrangle, 5:00 –7:00 pm
Free and opening to the public–museum admission not required.
The spectacular architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds of the Quadrangle will sparkle and shimmer against a dazzling outdoor lighting display. This festive holiday celebration features appearances by Santa Claus and the Grinch, rides on a fanciful train, performances of holiday music by the Sci Tech Band and special guests, visits to the Gingerbread: The Pop Culture Edition exhibition and free hot chocolate and cookies!
