Holiday Happenings at the Springfield Museums

Kick off the season with the Grinch, our Gingerbread House exhibit, art activities, the lighting of the Quad, and more. Travel from the Balloon parade to the Museums for a day filled with family-friendly, fun activities. Have a chance to meet the Grinch in person! Activities free with Museums admission. 10 am-5 pm.

Hollywood & the Holidays, 10 am-5 pm
Amazing gingerbread creations inspired by Christmas movies created by local bakeries, schools, adults and kids displayed along with festively decorated holiday trees, enchanting lights, and a backdrop of beautifully painted murals. Vote for your favorite! (Exhibit on view through December 31.)

Mount Crumpet Derby, 12-4 pm
Design a mini-sleigh to race down our mini-mountain and see who can bring the Grinch down to Whoville the fastest!

Art Discovery Center, 12-4 pm
Trace Chinese characters, try on costumes, play gallery games, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols to discover the meaning behind Asian motifs, put on a puppet show, and make an art project. Today’s Project: Make a Gingerbread House Card.

Christmas Photo Booth, 12-4 pm
Pose as a snowflake, star, or Christmas tree!

Music of The Three Wise Men, 1-3 pm
The Three Wise Men are a funky, jazzy, Christmas-y brass trio from Western Massachusetts. Enjoy their own brand of musical gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Meet the Grinch, 1-4 pm
Meet the furry green recluse who lives above Whoville. Get a photo taken, and give him a hug or a high five.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Cartoon & Sing-a-Long; 3-3:30 pm
Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a 1966 Christmas animated musical comedy television special directed by Chuck Jones. It is based on the eponymous children’s book by Dr. Seuss, the story of the Grinch trying to take away Christmas from the townsfolk of Whoville below his mountain hideaway. Sing-a-Long to the classic songs!

Girl and Mrs. Claus

The Lighting of the Quadrangle, 5:00 –7:00 pm 

Free and opening to the public–museum admission not required.

The spectacular architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds of the Quadrangle will sparkle and shimmer against a dazzling outdoor lighting display. This festive holiday celebration features appearances by Santa Claus and the Grinch, rides on a fanciful train, performances of holiday music by the Sci Tech Band and special guests, visits to the Hollywood and the Holidays gingerbread exhibition and free hot chocolate and cookies!

Visit the Museum Store on Small Business Saturday (November 30, 2019) or Museum Store Sunday (December 1) and earn gift certificates when you shop. Get a $10 gift certificate for every $50 spent on regularly priced items! In-store only; promotion not applicable to online sales.

Parking is always free in our Welcome Center lot and Museum admission is NOT required to shop.

Certificates will be valid December 2, 2019-January 18, 2020, on all merchandise. Cannot be combined with other discounts and coupons, or redeemed online. Does not apply to prior purchases.
