The Sokoki: Their Response to Colonization and Their Role in Northfield’s Beginnings (free lecture in Northfield, MA)

Trinitarian Church, 147 Main St, Northfield, MA

Archaeologist Peter Thomas of South Deerfield will talk about the Squakheag/Sokoki people who lived here before the English arrived.  Peter uses written English and French sources, plus information based on the last Sokoki village in this part of the Connecticut River Valley, which he partially excavated in the 1970s. Snow date is February 20. A reception will follow the presentation.

This lecture is free to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Town of Northfield and Historic Deerfield, in celebration of Northfield’s 350th anniversary.
