This lecture is the third, and last, in the Gibson House Museum‘s three-part Lecture Series, “Health and Medicine in 19th Century Boston.”

Using the experiences of Georgiana Stowe Allen, daughter of Harriet Beecher Stowe, and her son, Dr. Freeman Allen, husband of Mary Ethel Gibson, we will explore how mental health, disability, and addiction informed the experiences of care in the late 19th century. This lecture will be hosted in conjunction with the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center.
