The Middlefield Fair will take place Friday through Sunday, and feature music, horse pulls, oxen pulls, square dancing, antique engines and Kids Pie Eating Contest.

The old-time country fair, established in 1855, includes a petting zoo, children’s bike giveaways and home-style meals. There will be a pancake breakfast on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.

The fair officially opens at 4 p.m. on Friday with opening ceremonies. It will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The agricultural fair is sponsored by The Highland Agricultural Society, which was established in 1856 for the purpose of holding the agricultural fair in Middlefield. In those days it was known as the Cattle Show; the grounds were filled with local farmers’ prized cattle, and the exhibit hall was overflowing with entries from local women.

Fair admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors over 60, free for children under 12 and active military and veterans get in free.
