FELICE CAIVANO: WOMEN’S WORK
In the Wistariahurst Gallery beginning Monday March 7, 2022

Uniting hundreds of doilies in the Wistariahurst Gallery, Uncredited, is an installation that allows for what has been traditionally the domain of the personal to dwell in the public. This work utilizes the traditional needle art of doilies to draw attention to markers of identity, shared experiences, and memories carried by their makers. “ I see the individual doily as a shared symbol of customs that suggest the transfer of material culture by way of needlework practices,” says Caivano. “Each common doily serves as a reminder of the many hands of their makers and the varied traditions they represent.”  A companion work of hand embroidered doilies titled When, maps wages earned by women compared to men since the Equal Pay Act of 1963 was signed into law in the U.S.

Exhibit hours are Mondays 10:30 am to 12:30 pm; Tuesdays 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Admission is free but you must pre-register at https://wistariahurst.org/events/felice-caivano-womens-work/  Masks are required to enter.
