The new exhibit Reliquary of Blackness: An Exhibit of Oral Histories, curated by scholar Erika Slocumb and funded in part by Mass Humanities and the Holyoke Local Cultural Council, will open to the public at Wistariahurst on Tuesday, August 27th. The exhibit will be on view through October 23rd, with weekly viewing hours Sunday – Wednesday, Noon – 4 p.m. and by appointment (group visits may be scheduled outside public hours). The exhibit showcases some of the results of a two year-long project to document the history of Holyoke’s Black residents throughout the centuries, with a particular focus on the experiences of those living and working in Holyoke during the mid- 20th Century. Visitors to the exhibit will witness a sampling of the photographs, oral histories, and other documentation that has been uncovered and recorded over the course of the project.

This program is funded in part by Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
