WinterFest Amherst is Pioneer Valley’s Largest Winter Carnival. Featuring music, food, community, and sporting events!
Enjoy a stroll through the Amherst Commons with the ground lit up by hundreds of paper lanterns! Students of the local elementary schools of Amherst will be watercoloring and drawing on just under 2,000 paper lantern bags in their art classes. These lanterns will then be illuminated in Downtown Amherst on the commons for the whole town to see! We invite the public to come walk through the park, enjoy some easy-listening live music, and take in the whole scene.
Join us to close out the WinterFest week with fan-favorite, signature events at the Grand Finale! Participate in classics such as the Best in ‘Snow’ Dog Show, Chili Tasting Contest, and Cardboard Classic Sled Race! We’ll also have a bonfire, musical performances from local bands, food and beverage offerings, sledding, and – to top it all off – a massive fireworks display!
Activities start at 9 a.m. Saturday with the second annual Mini Golf Classic organized by Friends of Jones Library and sponsored by UMass Five College Federal Credit Union. The Friends of Jones also have organized an adults-only Wine and Nine putt from 6-7:30 p.m.
At 2 p.m. a WinterFest Polar Bear Splash will take place at Amherst Regional Middle School, 170 Chestnut St.
Sunday events beginning at noon include sledding at Cherry Hill Golf Course, 323 Montague Road, and hiking at the Notch Visitor Center, 1500 West St. There will be ice skating at the Mullins Center Community Ice Rink, 200 Commonwealth Ave., starting at 1:30 p.m.
