Western New England University, Art Gallery

March 1 - March 13

In celebration of Women’s History month, Western New England University will present essere/amare (to be/to love), a program featuring painter and public muralist, Pasqualina Azzarello from Sunday, March 1 to Tuesday, April 7, 2020. The gallery, located in the St. Germain Campus Center, is free and open to the public.

essere/amare (to be/to love) is an exhibition of new paintings by Azzarello that are at once reflective visual meditations as well as active explorations and demonstrations of the potential and vitality of human heart and will. Azzarello’s approach to mark-making is both receptive and deliberate-and it is through the process of creating the work that the artist explores and investigates the ever-evolving meaning and impact of the handmade mark. Consisting of both figurative and abstract works and painted in a palette that is evocative of fire, these paintings are physical and immediate manifestations of direct human expression. Painted with brushes or with hands upon unstretched canvas surfaces, they also evoke themes of trust, discovery, and surrender.
