WEBS – America’s Yarn Store, Spinning and Weaving Week

October 4 - October 7

It’s National Spinning and Weaving Week from 10/4 through 10/11, and we’ve got special deals for you! Check out our live demos in the Northampton Retail Store!

Warp Winding Demonstration and Hands-on Tutorial $30.00

It happens that as much as we loved weaving at one time, life got in the way, weaving was set aside and the skills so painstakingly developed faded away. National Spinning and Weaving week might just be the time to get back to weaving and get started again. This program is for lapsed weavers, not for people who have never woven. Attendance is limited to eight participants. Barbara Elkins, a founder of WEBS, will demonstrate the basic steps in winding a warp and using Webs’ warping boards, attendees will wind a 3-yard sample warp covering using a counting thread, winding a single end warp, 2-end warp, changing colors, fixing knots, tying off and chaining a warp. After each step, participants will repeat the process on the warping board. This will be a sample warp and you probably won’t want to attempt to dress your loom with it. Bring your own yarn if you’d like or find some yarns in Grampa’s Garage. You will need two colors of the same yarn on cones or tubes. Smooth cotton is preferable, and the weight should be 6/2 or heavier. A handout will be provided and there will be time for questions.

You Have To Be Warped To Weave

You Have To Be Warped To Weave $30.00

What better time to review or reinforce your warping skills than signing up for a demo of dressing the loom from back to front on October 7! Barbara Elkins, a founder of WEBS, will demonstrate the method used in beginning weaving classes during the 48-year history of the company. This is not a substitute for a basic weaving class, but instead offers a refresher for people who may have had to put weaving aside for a while and are now hoping to get back to it. The demo is limited to eight people. Dressing the loom from back to front has given generations of student weavers the skills necessary to weave trouble-free on well-behaved warps regardless of the yarns used. A printed handout will be provided. There will be opportunities to ask questions. The demo will take approximately two hours.

Format: In-Person
Instructor: Barbara Elkins
