Margaret Radcliffe – My Journey through the Heritage Sheep Breeds
Since early 2019 Margaret Radcliffe, knitting designer, writer, and teacher, has been exploring the most endangered of the heritage U.S. sheep breeds, working from raw fiber to finished yarn. Along the way, she developed the skills and confidence to wash, prepare, and spin almost any fleece. She documented her challenges and successes with each breed using photos and record cards. This lecture and exhibit will follow her more than three-year journey of exploration, her discoveries of each breed’s distinct characteristics & their potential, and give you the opportunity to see her archive of more than 20 breeds, the record-keeping method she is still perfecting, and to learn more about The Livestock Conservancy’s Shave ’Em to Save ’Em (SE2SE) program. Spinners will benefit most from this lecture, but knitters, crocheters, and weavers can also learn valuable information on working with breed-specific wools.
