The University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Music and Dance will conclude their spring 2019 series of guest artist concerts with a performance by clarinetist Carol McGonnell and pianist Finghin Collins. The concert will take place on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 pm in Bezanson Recital Hall, and will feature Michel Galante’s Flicker, Karl Stockhausen’s Tierkreis, Carl Maria Von Weber’s Grand Duo Concertant in E Flat Major, plus works by John Field and Allain Gaussin.
Hailed as “an extraordinary clarinetist” by the New York Times, “elastic, exacting, stupendous” by the LA Times and a “clarinet genius” by Time Out NY, Dublin-born clarinetist Carol McGonnell is known for the expressive power of her playing and her fearless exploration of cutting-edge developments in new music. McGonnell is a founding member of the Argento Chamber Ensemble and has been involved in the commissioning of over 100 new works ranging from solo pieces to clarinet concerti.
