The New England Air Museum, Helicopter Day

September 11, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm EDT

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, the New England Air Museum will hold its Fourth Annual Helicopter Day, which will feature many of the helicopters in its extensive collection and a few newly restored aircraft.  Take a walk through the incredible 22,000-pound CH-54 Skycrane or sit in the small one-person helicopter. Over 20 helicopters will be on display, including several open to the public to experience.

Adding to the extraordinary experience is a presentation and opportunity to meet Nick Lappos, Lockheed Martin Senior Fellow, previous Director of Test Engineering for Sikorsky Test Pilot, and a US Army combat helicopter pilot, who holds three helicopter world speed records. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Engineering’s Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board and is a former member of the NASA Aeronautics Research and Technology Roundtable.

Helicopter Day is open to the public, and all lectures and activities are included with general admission. The event is scheduled from 10AM to 3PM. Sneakers or rubber-soled shoes are recommended. Veterans and military service men and women with military identification are free courtesy of KeyBank. The New England Air Museum is open daily from 9AM to 4PM. Admission is $16.00 for ages 15 and up, $14.00 for seniors 65 and up and $10.00 for ages 4 to 14. New England Air Museum members and children under 3 are admitted free. The New England Air Museum is located on 36 Perimeter Road (off Route 75) on the North end of the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT. The idea of a helicopter dates back to the 15th century and Leonardo da Vinci. The first mass-produced helicopters were made right here in Connecticut by Sikorsky. Today helicopters play a pivotal role for the military, police, and even for exploring planets like Mars.
