Wonderful news! The conversation of Indigenous children’s and young adult books has burst into an ever-growing, forever glowing constellation. In her talk titled Celebrating Native Voices & Visions for Young Readers, award-winning author Cynthia Leitich Smith reflects on how we got here, what to consider, tips for navigating, connecting with kids and teens, and how all of this is key to everyone living on Native ancestral land today (that includes you!).
This event is free and open to all educators as space permits. Reservations are required and begin September 8. It will also be livestreamed through Facebook Live, but not recorded.

WHO YOU’LL MEET
CYNTHIA LEITICH SMITH
Cynthia Leitich Smith is a NSK Neustadt Laureate and a New York Times bestselling author of books for young readers, including Jingle Dancer and Hearts Unbroken, the latter which won the American Indian Library Association’s Youth Literature Award. Cynthia is also the author-curator of Heartdrum, a Native-focused imprint at HarperCollins Children’s Books, and the Katherine Paterson Inaugural Endowed Chair on the faculty of the MFA program in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. Cynthia is a citizen of the Muscogee Nation and lives in Austin, Texas.
