Meet some of the artists highlighted in Celebrating Collage: A 20th Anniversary Exhibition. Come for a day of storytimes, gallery talks, and book signings!

On June 25th—on what would have been Eric’s 93rd birthday—we will kick off six months of special anniversary exhibitions and programs that explore more than 100 years of creativity in picture books. Celebrating Collage: A 20th Anniversary Exhibition opens that day, highlighting 90 works by 20 artists who specialize in collage

Participating artists include Bryan Collier, Nina Crews, Thao Lam, Susan Roth, and Elizabeth Zunon. Caravan Kitchen food truck will be in Bobbie’s Meadow from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.

The Carle is celebrating 20 years and more than one million art- and book-loving visitors. This event kicks off six months of special exhibitions and activities.

WHO YOU’LL MEET

BRYAN COLLIER

Award-winning artist Bryan Collier began creating art at the age of 15. Using his signature style, a vibrant mix of watercolor and collage, he brings stories to life. Collier has received four Caldecott Honors and six Coretta Scott King Awards.

NINA CREWS

Nina Crews has written and illustrated many energetic stories for young children. She uses photographs and photo collages to create distinctive illustrations. Her work has been recognized by the ALA Notable Committee, Cooperative Children’s Book Council, Junior Library Guild, and Bank Street College of Education.

THAO LAM

Thao Lam has been creating pictures for as long as she can remember. For her, drawing has always felt as natural as breathing. She has an insatiable love for colored and textured papers, which she uses to create her exuberant collages.

SUSAN L. ROTH

Susan L. Roth’s unique mixed-media collage illustrations have appeared in numerous children’s books, many of which she also wrote. Her books have received awards including the New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year, ABA Pick of the Lists, and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award.

ELIZABETH ZUNON

Elizabeth Zunon was born in Albany, New York, and grew up in the Ivory Coast of West Africa. As a little girl, she loved to draw, paint, make up dances, and play dress-up, and as she grew up, she didn’t really change! Elizabeth continues to explore a multicultural world though painting, beading, sewing, and collage.
