Springfield Preservation Trust’s Winter Fundraiser

January 26 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

Support historic preservation in Springfield by attending “A Victorian Winter Wonderland”—the Springfield Preservation Trust’s 2024 Winter Fundraiser— at the Loomis-Wesson Mansion, the stately high gothic Victorian at 220 Maple Street, courtesy of homeowner and host Angelene Huang.

Enter the mansion… and travel back in time to the Victorian period. Victorian-inspired attire is encouraged but optional—think brightly colored waistcoats, vests, and puff ties on the masculine side or long skirts, bonnets, and shawls on the feminine side… like a Charles Dickens novel! The event, which will take place on January 26, 2025, at 1:00 pm, will feature music, hors d’oeuvres, wine, beverages, a viewing of Asian art, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, and a historic home tour of the mansion.

Brief History:

Frances Loomis hired Ware & Van Brunt to design 220 Maple Street, near the top of the hill that overlooks downtown Springfield and the Connecticut River. Chauncey Shepard, an architect and builder who, nearly a half-century earlier, had designed and built the nearby David Ames, Jr. House, did the actual construction. Shepard built the Loomis house from 1873 to 1874 at a cost of $25,000, and he died the following year, at the age of 78. The fundraiser will be a rare opportunity to have a guided tour of this historic home, which, to the Trust’s knowledge, was built by a national-renowned architectural firm for $25,000. See the beautiful Loomis-Wesson Mansion—and support the Trust’s mission—at this Victorian Winter Wonderland, at this year’s Winter Fundraiser.
