Springfield Jazz & Roots Block Party
Join us at the new mural UNVEILING BLOCK PARTY on FRIDAY, AUGUST 12 with live music from Springfield’s own blues singer and songwriter Janet Ryan, and founder of the band FAT, Peter Newland!
Downtown Springfield’s resident artist John Simpson will commence the painting of a mural on an iconic Worthington Street building in Springfield’s Stearns Square. John’s murals can be seen throughout downtown, including “The Indian Motorcycle” at MGM, “The Beatles Abby Road” at 31 Elm Street, and “Dr Seuss” under the highway. The 5-story mural in Stearns Square will help to galvanize the decades of hard work and diligence by the SBID and the City of Springfield to restore the former Entertainment District into a thriving Dining and Entertainment District. The new mural will be celebrated at the unveiling Block Party to kick-off the 9th Annual Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival.
This event and its partners’ incentive is to improve the Downtown Springfield city landscape, and to educate, entertain, and enhance lives through the use of public art projects.
The Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival takes place at Stearns Square and Tower Square Park area.
