May 18 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
The preservation of heirloom fruits, vegetables, and flowers is a vital component of the Old Sturbridge Village horticulture program. The Heirloom Plant Sale will feature more than 75 varieties of heirloom herbs, flowers, and tomato plants with prices between $3 and $5 per plant. Variety examples include Hollyhock (Alcea rosea), Wild Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea), Valerian (Valeriana officinalis), Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Large Red Tomato, Yellow Pear Tomato, and so much more.
Come to the Heirloom Plant Sale and take a little bit of the Village home with you to grow in your own garden! You can also pick up a variety of heirloom seeds in the Museum Store. Each packet includes growing instructions and seed lore.
No admission is charged to enter the plant sale.
Did you know that Old Sturbridge Village grows nearly 400 different varieties of heirloom fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers throughout the museum?
An heirloom seed is typically defined as any open-pollinated variety that is more than 50 years old. Heirloom varieties often have a history of being passed down from generation to generation. Heirloom plants tend to have unique colors, shapes, and tastes compared to commercially available produce.
