Northfield Mountain, Amazing Geology Stories
August 27 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm EDT
Professor Richard Little will take you through colliding continents that made the supercontinent of Pangea plus the rifting that followed as dinosaurs roamed the land and armored mud balls rolled along Northfield-area streams. He will bring rare samples of Jurassic armored mud balls plus lead a walk at Riverside that reveals this amazing geologic history. The Riverside walk will reveal dramatic evidence of glaciers, Lake Hitchcock, a dinosaur footprint hiding in plain site plus pillow lava, and other “gneiss” rocks.
This 1.5 hours event is a walk/talk and registration is required at www.bookeo.com/northfield. There are two events to choose from on this day. 10:30 AM and 1PM. Cost $9.
Professor Little will bring copies of his local geology books for sale. See his website for more information. www.EarthView.rocks and also www.ArmoredMudBalls.rocks.
Richard Little is a Professor Emeritus of geology at Greenfield Community College. After over 50 years in the Valley, he considers Franklin County to be the best place in the world to study geology.
