Montague, Concert

April 15 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm EDT

On the evening of Friday April 18, acclaimed NYC-based violinist and composer Kaethe Hostetter will present a concert at the Montague Common Hall in Montague Center. She brings her new project “Impressions of Ethiopia”, a collection of musical vignettes for 5-string violin and electronics, sourcing from her 11 years living in Addis Ababa. Hostetter transports you to the bustling streets of the East African metropolis, evoking the crackling sounds of a saxophone blaring out of a barbershop radio, a shepherd’s flute melody turned dub reggae, the fervent dancing on packed dirt floors of a rural honey-wine bar, and the funky big band psychedelic sounds of Ethiopia’s “Golden Era”.

The solo multimedia project uses electronics and loops, storytelling, and video projection to share a personal journey and be a door to a world that is now undergoing serious ethnic conflict.

Local band O Ksenos will play an opening set. Members Jesse Bay (oud, guitar, percussion, vocals), Heather Kuhn (vocals), Clarissa Lyons (clarinet), and Rafe Wolman (violin, guitar) play traditional Greek folk music, dances, and rembetika.

The concert will be held on the evening of Friday April 18 from 7-9:30pm, at the Montague Common Hall, 34 Main St, Montague Center, MA. Suggested donation is $20, with nobody turned away for lack of funds. Tickets and more information at www.weathervane-arts.org.
