Hytner established himself in comedy shows by becoming a regular in The Jeff Foxworthy Show in 1995, joining the show’s second and final season. In 1997, he became a regular of another sitcom, Working; he played acerbic employee Steve Hytner throughout the show’s two year run, despite cast changes. He also got recurring roles in Roswell and on Seinfeld he played mediocre comedian Kenny Bania, who idolizes Jerry Seinfeld—and continued playing guest roles in numerous other shows.
