Longmeadow, Pumpkins and Pets
October 13, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, at 335 Longmeadow St. in Longmeadow, will host its ninth annual Pumpkins and Pets on the Hill Festival on Saturday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is the beginning of a full day of celebration that includes blessings of animals and a Celtic service. Visitors to the Pumpkins and Pets on the Hill Festival can select their own pumpkin and participate in a variety of hands-on activities. A bake sale will feature homemade pies and breads.
In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the 12th-century patron saint of animals and the environment, Animal Craze from Winchendon will be on hand at the festival from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with miniature farm animals for visitors to hold, pet and feed. At 11:30 a.m. there will be a traditional Blessing of the Pets.
Those who are unable to come at 11:30 for the 15-minute service, may request “drop by” blessings; clergy will be available until 1 p.m. for them. All sizes and breeds of animals are welcome; pets must either be on a leash or in a carrier.
The day’s events are free and open to the public, rain or shine.
