So you think the view off the Summit House deck is timeless? Well, there have actually been many changes over the past 200+ years, both manmade and natural. Come and view these changes, look at old images, and see what’s different. Meet on the Summit House deck. Wheelchair accessible.

The Prospect House/Mt Holyoke Hotel was the first summit house in the region – was it the only? By 1900 it had a lot of

The Evolution of the Summit House Saturdays, June 22 & 29, 1:30-2:00 PM. Suitable for all ages.
The first “prospect” or Summit House was a small “refreshment” hut built in a little over a day in 1821. Learn
about the evolution of the historic Summit House over the years, ranging from a pair of “dueling saloons,” to a
small inn, to a grand hotel, to becoming the featured site—preserved by DCR—anchoring and located within a
state park for all to enjoy. Meet on the Summit House deck. Wheelchair accessible.
Summit House Tours Saturdays & Sundays, 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. & 3:00 – 3:30 p.m.
The advent of factory over farm work meant people had more time for leisure and more money to spend. In 1851, seizing upon this, a Northampton bookbinder and his wife built a tiny hotel on the peak of Mount Holyoke. Join us for a guided tour of the restored, 1861 version of what has since become known as the Summit House.
All Programs are free and open to the public. An adult must accompany children. Reasonable accommodations available upon request.
