Holyoke, Annual Shad Derby
May 10
The annual HG&E Shad Derby is one of the region’s largest fishing events. Held on two weekends in May, the derby offers both adult and youth fisherman the opportunity to win prizes as they enjoy the recreational benefits of the Connecticut River.
Holyoke Gas & Electric’s Annual Shad Derby is a FREE event that invites the region’s anglers to fish the waters of the Connecticut River in a contest to catch the largest shad. Contestants must bring their fish to the official weighing station located by the Robert E. Barrett Fishway, near the Route 116 Bridge. Official weighing is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Derby Days. Prizes will be awarded at the tournament’s conclusion on Sunday.
