Historic Deerfield, Pease Porridge: Making Soup

As days in November grow colder, our thoughts turn to warm, nutritious foods. Come join us to learn about one of the favorite winter staples of the past: soup! Beans and dry peas, like the beans grown in our Three Sisters Garden, are the main ingredients of pease porridge. At the History Workshop History Workshop you can have fun assembling your very own jar of dry ingredients to make peas porridge at home. You can also make and take a small booklet of historic recipes. After playing in the History Workshop kitchen, explore the kitchens of Deerfield’s historic houses.
Included with general admission
