History of Western Science – PART IV:  I am Become Death, Destroyer of Worlds

In the final part of this four-part series we’re looking at the wild technology, theoretical science, and monstrosities of the 20th Century. Atomic energy, DNA, Artificial intelligence, human cloning, LSD, Eugenics, plastics, computers… the list goes on and on. This presentation will take stock of the scientific currents of the 20th Century and how these have affected man’s outlook in the last 100 years. Included will be references to the First and Second World Wars, the atomic bomb, science fiction, existentialism, the anti-scientific movements of the 20th Century, and current issues concerning science, such as the cloning of humans, hygienic issues like the overuse of hand sanitizer and antibiotics, declining water quality, and related issues like extinction events and environmental danger and the psychological effect of these issues on society.

  • Attendees are responsible for a flat-rate parking fee of $5 to park in the Science Center garage.
