A great experience on the Connecticut River
An event every week that begins at 5:30 pm on Sunday, repeating until July 28, 2022
This is a gentle loop from the Sunderland Boat Ramp access around Sunderland Islands Wildlife Management Area – First Island and Second Island. This excursion is a good introduction to upstream paddling and exploring a mid-river island where there are nesting bald eagles.
The paddling is smooth but can be somewhat swift depending upon the outflow from Cabot Station, the main hydro-electric facility upstream, and though it has no rapids this is still an area to respect as a paddler. Because we will be in somewhat of a confined area, there will be flexibility based on your group to keep it ultra-relaxed paddling near Riverside Park or to get a bit more exercise and run the 3-mile loop around Second Island and check out the cliff face and rock formations upstream.
