Adventure East, Hike

January 22 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm EST

Winter is a beautiful time to enjoy a walk in the woods and you don’t need to be an expert to don a pair of snowshoes or micro spikes to make the experience an enjoyable one. We’ll help you gear up and take your first steps in our equipment making it possible to walk on snow and ice.

Once we get going, we’ll explore the beauty of the winter forest and connect to the healing powers of nature. We’ll discover the abundance of life in the forest. With tree and bird identification as well as wildlife tracking, we can begin to know our natural world more intimately.

This is a loop through hardwood forest of approximately one mile. We’ll explore an old quarry basin that was active in the first half of the 19th century and learn about its important contribution to Pelham and Amherst history.

The Buffam Brook Community Forest is only the second of its kind in Massachusetts. Owned and managed by the Pelham Conservation Commission, in partnership with Kestrel Land Trust, which holds the perpetual Conservation Restriction on the land, the forest is managed for the educational, recreational, and economic benefit of the community. Your participation in this adventure directly supports the Kestrel Land Trust and their mission to preserve open space and provide access to outdoor recreation.
